News updates
Here you'll find updates for both the PV-PW and PW-SEV/BRG (formerly PW-SEV/BOB)
projects, including a timeline of events for each project.
On Dec. 8, 2006, the Arizona Corporation Commission issued an Order (Decision No. 69183) approving SRP's request to construct a 230kV circuit on the 500kV structures to be built along the Pinal West to Southeast Valley certificated route in Casa Grande. Specifically, SRP will add a 230kV circuit to the 500kV structures at a point on Cornman Road near the intersection with Thornton Road and continue east along the route to the future Pinal South Substation.
The request was made in compliance with Condition 23 of the Pinal West to Southeast Valley CEC (Decision No. 68093). The 230kV circuit will be part of the planned Desert Basin 230kV Power Line Project. SRP intends to file a CEC application for the portion of the Desert Basin 230kV Power Line Project exiting the Desert Basin Generating Station and continuing south for approximately six miles to intersect with the 500kV corridor. Pursuant to the ACC Order, construction of the 230kV circuit on the 500kV structures may not occur until SRP receives a CEC for the remainder of the project.

On Aug. 11, 2006, SRP filed a request with the Arizona Corporation Commission
(ACC) to construct a 230kV circuit on the 500KV structures along the
certificated route south of Casa Grande. Specifically, SRP is requesting that a
230kV circuit be added to the 500kV structures at a point on Cornman Road, near
the intersection with Thornton Road, and continue east along the route to the
future Pinal South Substation. The 230kV circuit will be part of the planned
Desert Basin 230kV project.
This filing satisfies the requirements of Condition No. 23 of the Certificate of
Environmental Compatibility (CEC), Decision No. 68093, for the Pinal West to
Southeast Valley/Browning Transmission project. Once the ACC approves SRP's
request for the double circuit structures, SRP will move forward with obtaining
the appropriate line siting approvals for the proposed Desert Basin 230kV
project.

On Aug. 16, 2005, the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) voted unanimously
(5-0)
to confirm a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility (CEC) for the Pinal
West-to-Southeast Valley/Browning (PW-SEV/BRG) project.
The ACC held a special open
meeting Nov. 9, 2005 at which the Commission voted unanimously on the
Pulte request for reconsideration of the CEC decision. The amended decision
extends the 500kV transmission line corridor width to a half mile on the east
side of the centerline of the Valley Farms/Cooper Road section line, but for
only the area that is north of the state land to the Union Pacific Railroad.
Pulte's original request was to expand the corridor width to include the state
land as well as the land located south of the state land to the north side of
the Gila River.

The Arizona Power Plant and Transmission Line Siting Committee recommended that
Salt River Project be granted a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility
(CEC) for its Pinal West-to-Southeast Valley/Browning (PW-SEV/BRG) project. The
siting committee reached their decision at the May 10, 2005 hearing, following
a full day of discussion and debate. Committee chairman Laurie Woodall signed
the CEC on June 8, 2005 and forwarded the siting committee's recommendation to
the ACC for its consideration.
Participants in the PW-SEV/BRG Project include SRP (project manager), Tucson
Electric Power Co., the Santa Cruz Water and Power Districts Association,
Electrical District #2 and the Southwest Transmission Cooperative Inc.

May 18, 2004 - The Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) approved the certificate
of environmental compatibility (CEC), Decision 67012, for the Palo Verde to Pinal West (PV-PW) Project on May 18, 2004.
The PV-PW Project consists of two new 500-kilovolt transmission lines that will
serve Pinal, Pima and Maricopa counties. SRP will begin building the facilities
in 2005, with an expected in-service date of 2006.
Partners in the PV-PW Project include SRP (project manager), Tucson Electric
Power Co., Southwest Transmission Cooperative Inc., Electrical District Number
2, Electrical District Number 3, and Electrical District Number 4.
PV-PW project background
SRP submitted an application for a CEC with the ACC for the Palo
Verde-to-Pinal West (PV-PW) project on Dec. 16, 2003.
The Arizona Power Plant and Transmission Line Siting Committee reviewed the
application at a public hearing Feb. 9 and 10, 2004. A special public comment
session also was held Feb. 9. Additional hearings were held March 15-16, 2004.
View the PV-PW project timeline below for details.
On March 16, 2004, the Arizona Transmission Line and Power Plant Siting
Committee unanimously granted preliminary approval for the project's CEC. In
the hearing process, the Committee approved using the Alternate Route C in the
vicinity of the Maricopa County Mobile Planning Area.
